I have a family with 2 daughters called Eliza and Elizabeth. Is this unusual?? I thought Eliza was usually a short form of Elizabeth. Lyn

think both names are names in their own right, seem a bit similar though to be two daughters. can you confirm on birth registers? May be a re-marriage involved- a 'His elizabeth' and 'her Eliza' jess

I have families in my tree where there are similar names like this- even a family with one George & one George Richard (God knows how they coped!). My g.g.grandmother's name was also Ellen Lois Louisa- I thought it must be a misprint, but it wasn't- obviously they just couldn't choose between them! Nico X

I have Elizas and Elizabeths who seem to have swopped the two at randon. They would be born Eliza then swop later to Elizabeth, then perhaps to Betty to confuse people. I have Francis's who were christened Frank, Franks who were christened Francis, a George Frederick who was just George then just Frederick, and a Margaret who was christened Peggy. No wonder my brain hurts.

Thanks everyone for your replies. They are definitely sisters, both on 1871 census with parents, Eliza aged 12 and Elizabeth aged 1. I now need to find their parent's marriage. Thanks again. Lyn

I have an Eliza and an Elizabeth in a family - I thought it was a mistake but they were two separate daughters. nell

Hi Lyn My great granny was Eliza Elizabeth: both born and baptised as this, so both the vicar and the registrar must have accepted these as separate names.
