I have a family with 2 daughters called Eliza and Elizabeth. Is this unusual?? I thought Eliza was usually a short form of Elizabeth. Lyn |

think both names are names in their own right, seem a bit similar though to be two daughters. can you confirm on birth registers? May be a re-marriage involved- a 'His elizabeth' and 'her Eliza' jess |

I have families in my tree where there are similar names like this- even a family with one George & one George Richard (God knows how they coped!). My g.g.grandmother's name was also Ellen Lois Louisa- I thought it must be a misprint, but it wasn't- obviously they just couldn't choose between them! Nico X |

I have Elizas and Elizabeths who seem to have swopped the two at randon. They would be born Eliza then swop later to Elizabeth, then perhaps to Betty to confuse people. I have Francis's who were christened Frank, Franks who were christened Francis, a George Frederick who was just George then just Frederick, and a Margaret who was christened Peggy. No wonder my brain hurts. |

Thanks everyone for your replies. They are definitely sisters, both on 1871 census with parents, Eliza aged 12 and Elizabeth aged 1. I now need to find their parent's marriage. Thanks again. Lyn |

I have an Eliza and an Elizabeth in a family - I thought it was a mistake but they were two separate daughters. nell |

Hi Lyn My great granny was Eliza Elizabeth: both born and baptised as this, so both the vicar and the registrar must have accepted these as separate names. |
