Aaah! Thanks for that, Kate. Must admit I haven't been able to find the same info on any other site, so that could well be what's happened. Won't part with any money unless I find the same records elsewhere. Thanks also to you, Louise, for getting back to me so quickly.

Haven't got time to look now as I have to go out, but just thought I'd let you know that on ancestry it often comes up with matches for a name just because all the components of that name come up on the same page of something, but not necessarily all in the same person's name. So if you look up Britt Hannah Phillips it might just be a page with a Hannah, a Phillips and a Britt on. Kate.

Thanks a lot Louise. Her name's Britt Hannah Oxenham (married name Phillips) and she was born in Merthyr Tydfil in either 1894 or 96. One of the entries is for Britt Hannah Oxenham in Devon, and the other for Britt Hannah Phillips in Surrey. I really appreciate this!

Probate records are wills, parish records are usually taken as baptisms, marriages and burials. I would be very wary of paying for this info - some I gather is freely available elsewhere.

My grandmother - who, as far as I know, spent her whole life in Wales - had a very unusual name. On Ancestry.co.uk I found two entries for someone with the same name (one under her maiden name and the other under her married name) in different parts of england. In the column on the right, the text read births, deaths, marriages, probate and parish records. I can't read the entries without paying, but before I do that I just wondered if anyone has any idea what probate and parish records mean? Many thanks, Pam
