I was about to apply for my great grandmothers death cert last night as I have almost all of the information, but it seems not enough...I know the year she died (or am hoping it's her, which is the reason I am applying for it to find it) But since I dont have her exact dd/mm/yyyy it wont allow me to submit it. I have the gro details as u guys call it, but on the www.gro.gov.uk it wont let me proceed futher..She died in Tonbridge 1917 Can ayone offer any suggestions? Michelle |

Her name at the time of her death was Catherine Elizabeth Hopkins (maiden name Hiscutt, and first married name Hunt) I have Hopins Catherine E 30 Tonbridge.2a 1375 Death 1 1917 Pretty sure this is her, and when applying for her death cert on line it has the * for exact date, like dd/mm/yyyy, and until I enter this it wont allow me to proceed further unless I know it....help??? You guys are awesome; Michelle |

I'm not sure where you're going wrong Michelle, but if I apply for it I'm only being asked for first & last names + GRO ref This is what it says on the GRO site..... Required fields will be followed by the * character. Important Customer Information:- The ONLY information that we check against the entry from this page is the TOP TWO LINES ie. surname and forename(s). If you have other details you wish us to use to ensure the reference does belong to the entry you are seeking, these must be included on the 'Reference Checking' page. The button to take you through to 'Reference Checking' can be found at the bottom of this screen Particulars of the person whose certificate is required Year death was registered 1917 Surname of deceased * Forenames of deceased * Relationship to the deceased Date of death (dd/mm/yyyy) Age at death in years (for infants less than 1 year please state 0) Place of death or last known address Father's surname Father's forenames Mother's surname Mother's forenames Reference information from GRO Index Year 1917 Quarter* Select District name* Volume Number* Page Number* Service Options |

Hi Michelle I have gone to order the cert and it isn't asking me for that! On the first page have you filled oin 'Year of Death' and then ticked 'YES' when it asks if the GRO ref is known? If you don't put 'YES' to the GRO ref part then it does make you enter the exact date of birth. Sam x |

When the GRO site asks 'is the full GRO reference known' make sure you have the 'yes' box ticked. If the 'no' box is left ticked then it WILL ask for the full date of death. Kath. x |

Have you tried telephoning GRO for a cert as just as quick or alternativley contact Tonbridge Registry office itself? Genuki has a list of all registry offices addresses and phone numbers. Good luck, carol |
