My g grandmother Annie Ellis married g grandfather James Flew in 1890. Marriage certificate gives her fathers name as George Ellis and her age on cert and censuses leads to a birth year of 1860 or 1861 in Marston, Wiltshire. There is an Annie Elizabeth Ellis on the GRO and I have the cert but it is the wrong one. I have found this Annie with her parents on censuses as well as my Annie. On the 1901 census there is a Frank Earley with the family, stated as cousin, so I thought I would track him back. Now I am even more confused. In summary, Frank`s parents were George Earley and Eliza Romain. Eliza was born out of wedlock to Maria Romain. Maria was born out of wedlock to Ann Romain and Ann later married a James Ellis. Now I have linked him to the name Ellis. I have found a number of children of James and Ann, but cant find a link to a George who could be Annies father. Considering the run of unmarried mothers, I started thinking that maybe Annie was born out of wedlock and her mother married later. I have used the IGI batch number site, but there are baptisms for Worton but not Marston. On genuki, the 2 seem to be linked as they are about a mile from each other. Until such time that I can get to Trowbridge and visit the Wiltshire records office, anyone got any other ideas please.

You've probably thought of this already - but have you tried under the name ANNIE ROMAIN? There's nothing on Ancestry, but might be on the GRO indexes. There are a few entries for Annie Romain in the Devizes district - which covers Marston.

I can't really work it out, but Frank Earley is actually listed on the census as James's cousin, though it could be that he was really Annie's. Anyway, have you investigated the possibility of him being James's cousin? Kate.
