It's only by putting ''everyone'' on the IGI that the LDS church members can then identify who were their ancestors, and thus who can be retrospectively saved. Of course, some LDS members are more enthusiastic than others, hence why some of their trees have couples producing 40 children or more, even several per year or giving birth when the mother is aged 5 or aged 65!! In other words, double-check any info that you find on the IGI as some of it is pure fiction!!

So they can have their ancestors baptised into the church and go forth to the kingdom of God. I'm not keen on the idea myself, my father a cradle Catholic, found that the most appalling in many of his doorstep discussions with them. Thankfully I have never found any of my relatives on their trees.

I wasnt knocking it Richard, I just wondered why! I could understand the reasoning of having their deceased ancestors on it...... but why everyone else?I will have a look at the site again + see if there is an explanation.

Wasn't it something to do with putting adopted people in touch with their birth parents or am I way off the mark.

Ann On the familysearch site, go to 'Home', then select 'Why family history'. They explain their reasons on there. Basically, they think that all their deceased ancestors can be 'blessed' into their church, and therefore that their ancestor's souls can be saved retrospectively. Weird, but hey - if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the IGI so don't knock it!
