There is of course the 1901 census decoder, which I use and its very useful finding where they could be. Saves wasting money buying only to find its not the one you want. Irene

If you don't think you will get good use from ancestry, then may I suggest you look through a search site (google perhaps?) ... search for free census and a particular area - some small parts of census specific to certain areas are available free online. It may be worth searching for a specific name - as many people have transcribed various parts of census themselves for their own family research. Though specific areas are easier to find. for instance, there is a small transcription of the 1811 census available free online for Huntingdon (Alwalton, to be specific): http://www.pjsfh.btinternet(.)co(.)uk/Alwalton1811.htm remove () Its nearly always worth a search like this before spending out money... if you're very lucky, you may have a few results that may be a good base to start rresearch from that will eventually means a subscription to Ancestry is more worthwhile. Well, I've rabbited on enough. Sorry (bad habit...lol) Hope that helps a bit though.

Hi Katrina If you have a specific name you want to look up, I subscribe to Ancestry & will look for you. As the others have said though if you have quite a few to look up it's well worth the sub. Vivienne

Ancestry has british censues from 1861 to 1901, but you have to subscribe to their service. Alot of members have ancestry subscriptions and offer to do lookups both on this board and on the records office board.

Hi Katrina. The 1901 is on the pay-per-view site as you know, but also on Ancestry. You have to subscribe to Ancestry, but then you can look as long and as hard as you want. It's really good value, I think, and you also get the 1861, 1871, 1881 (which is free elsewhere anyway) and 1891 censuses for the same subscription. There are several threads around where people with subscriptions will do look-ups for you if it is just one or two names you want. Tina

I was wondering if GR members would have the 1901 Census available or is the only place to check this on the pay per view site? Thanks katrina
