Thanks Helen, I think what happened was that William wanted to get away from the quaker religion so as an adult got baptised and the rest as they say is history. |

Daniel Quakers don't practise baptism, so he obviously changed his faith - perhaps to enable him to enter a profession which required an oath of allegiance to the Crown, or perhaps to marry in a C of E church. I answered a query about Quaker records earlier, but I am not sure what the thread title was. I think a lot of records are at county records offices. Quaker marriage certs tended to be signed by the whole meeting at which the marriage took place. I don't think they had a separate ceremony especially. The Society of Friends website might help you. I also think that there's a bit about meetings etc in Margaret Forster's biography of a Quaker family in Carlisle. I'll have a look later on for you if you like. nell |

My 6xG grandfather was baptised in 1778, at 21 years of age. It is noted along side his name in the parish records that his parents were John and Hannah and that they were Quakers. Has anyone had any experience looking for Quaker relatives and know where I should look next? Before this time the family don't appear in any of the church records (surprise, surprise) so I'm a bit stumped. Thanks, Dan |
