Formal adoption didn't exist until 1927, so if it happened before then there won't be any records anyway. nell

Sometime in the 1920s I believe. I don't even know if my great-aunt was married, but I'm assuming she was as, presumably, it would have been impossible for a single woman to adopt.

What you don't (and wont be able to gain access to) is the childs original birth name. When abouts did this aunt Adopt the child? Jess

That's exactly what I mean Jess. My great-aunt adopted a child many years ago, but unfortunately I don't have much information to go on. All I have is my great-aunt's maiden name and the first name of the child, along with the area in which they lived. Pam
