I am thinking of sending for my fathers ww2 service records, I already know his army no. and batallion and my brother years ago sent for his medals that my father never collected, but we still don't really know if he enlisted or was enroled himself, where he did his training, I know he went to Burma and got injured and was in hospital over in India for nearly a year but I would like to know more about what he did and so does anyone know if by paying and sending for his records they would give this kind of information, I don't mind paying (I believe its £35) but would like to know if I would get the sort of info that I am searching for, has anyone else any experience of sending for service records and what sort of things did you get back. |

They now photo-copy all the information they have, I sent for my fathers and it show the Regiment and Battalion he was in, when they embarked for oversea, country's he fought in, the times he was in hospital, course's he had done and promotion, any trouble he was in and punishment, they also sent his TA record from before the war, it was a long wait to receive them but well worth it. In case you look at this again I would like to say thank you very much really appreciate the advice and I will be sending for my dad's records now, It sounds like it will have all the info I would like to know, hopefully fill in the blanks we have about his life. He never talked to us about the war, I know he had nightmares about it and talked or cried out at night in his sleep, he didn't even talk to my mum about it, it is so sad what people and their families had to go through. Thanks again for the info. |
