Did William marry and if so does his father John's occupation tally with that given for the family group you found in 1861? I too have found people entered twice on a census. The 2 Williams could well be the same person, depending on John's info.

Yes people do seem to be listed twice on some census. My relative appears twice on the 1881, once on his training ship and then also at a cafe/hotel/pub whatever in Portsmouth. Grace

Hi Ann my Grt Grt Grandad is down twice on the 1891 at his parents house a few streets away and his own house so it can happen his parents must have just put down who lived at the house even though he was away visiting on census night. Colette xx

It is possible for somebody to be listed twice on the census, I've found one on the 1901 who is listed at her parents' home and also where she was visiting for the night. But I'm not sure how you can tell if that happened here! Kate.

Hi All - After sending for birth cert for the only William Blaylock dob 1854 to fit into my family (via 1837) couldnt find on ancestry or lds or freebmd - discovered fathers name to be John and mother Sarah (nee Holmes) back off to 1861 to find that John,Sarah,William all happily at home (Cumberland) - I had William in 1861 staying as visitor with rellies as per 1871 - does the team think a) oh well wrong again or b) William put down but not really there as away at auntie and uncles ?? Talk about trying to get your tree to come together - square pegs round holes??? Comments please Ann
