Ah thank you everyone. Thats interesting because my Grandad (Walter and Isabella's son) was called Wallace. I wonder if Wallace was his real name and he called himself Walter. I have no paper work at all for that side of my family, i only have my mum and Aunty to ask and they thought he was called Walter. This might explain why i could find him on the census! I was looking under Walter! thanks again to you all xx |

Walt and Wally is a short form of Wallace, as also they are short forms for Walter Jeanette |

Thanks Sam. No i didnt know that. If you've been on 1837 online how did you find the marriage in 1921. Sorry if im being stupid but i thought you could only see details up to 1837 on 1837online? Is that not true? |

Yes Natalie, you do have to pay for this information. You can buy credits to search on 1837 online & www.familysearch.org I have some credits on 1837 online and have found this for you John Kelly married Elizabeth Hudson in Stockport - March quarter 1921 GRO ref: 8a 151 With the GRO references you can order the marriage certificate from www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp at the cost of £7, this will hopefully give you their ages, although sometimes it can say 'full age' meaning over 21, and also names of their respective fathers, (forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know) Hope this helps Sam |

I have the names of the G Grandparents but thats it with rough years of birth. I dont know their parents or siblings names etc. I thought if i found their marriages or baptisms it might help me a bit They are Walter Griffiths and Isabella or Annie Whitney both born approx 1885 - 1901. Married around 1920-1924 Elizabeth Hudson and John Kelly both born in 1900, married in Yorkshire between 1918 - 1921 |

Free bmd is being produced by volunteer transcribers and wont be complete for years, so you may or may not be lucky on there, same for ancestry which uses freebmd data. You can try 1837online or familyrelatives for bmd and they are both pay to view. For pre 1837 info you can look at the IGI on familysearch which isnt complete but may give you a starting point. Otherwise its down to the records office Im afraid. |

FreeBMD as the name implies, is Free. However, it is not complete by any means. If you can't find what you need there, you will have to try 1837online which is a pay per view site. Each image is 10p and the minimum fee is £5. |
