I'm having a bit of trouble finding gg grandfathers birth and marriage details, although his surname isn't too common - HAYNES - his first name - William - is so when i'm searching on the census and bmd i'm coming up with loads of matches, does anyone have any suggestions how i can narrow my search down a bit. with the marriage certificates i have gone through about 25 yrs of records and not found any matches for both husband and wife, in the records office would the marriages be logged under both peoples names or just one? if anyone fancies looking up the details for me my gg grandfather is WILLIAM HAYNES, born between 1837 and 1841 ( according to the census returns this was in barnes/westminster, surrey), his wife CLARA LOUISA NEWELL, was born in 1842 and their 1st child was born in 1870 but as i said i've not found their marriage anywhere, if anyone has any luck please let me know, and any other suggestions would be appreciated Ali

Have you gone through all the GRO marriage indexes for both Haynes ANd Newell? It's possible the marriage cert copy never reached the GRO and you might need to apply to the local register office, if you know where the marriage took place - its likely it was near where the eldest child was born. Unfortunately, lots of London register offices don't issue certs for genealogical purposes:-( Have you looked on the www.familysearch.org site? nell
