I am trying to find out what happened to a soldier (Edward Ainsworth b Stepney 1863). In the 1881 census he is an 18 year old private in the South Staffordshire Regiment. So far Ancestry doesnt come up with any matches in the 1891 or 1901 Census, nor can I find a marriage or death. If he died on active service how and where would that be recorded? Alan Morden |

Thank you - the generosity and helpfulness of people on this site never ceases to amaze me. - the Jabbilpore Ainsworth looks like he's too young. - will now try to find out where the 1st Battalion of the South Staffs were in 1883 and 1884. Presumably I can order death certs online from the GRO just by using the name/place/year and page? thank you once again Alan Morden |
