Hi Rodney If you have their marriage index, you can then order their marriage certificate online, but you can't get a copy of the actual certificate online. hope this helps Emma |

Hi Emma What do you mean by the ' marriage index ' Rodney |

Rodney You can order them online but you can't view before you buy and you will need the gro ref. It usually takes approx 5 days to reach you by post. If you post the names on here or the records board someone may be able to find it the reference on Ancestry or Family Relatives. If not, you will need to search 1837online which you have to pay for - 50 credits for £5. The years are split into quarters and it's one credit per quarter so 40p per year. For the years you are looking for it will only give the one name but if you're sure of the partner you won't need to look for them as a cross check. There is a link to the GRO site where you can place your order. I've made it sound really complicated - sorry! Debby |

If you post the couples names I'll have a look on FreeBMD for you for the index, with that you can then order the certificate at http://www*gro*gov*uk/gro/content/certificate/ (change * for . ) for about £7 The marrige index is just that - an index of names of all the people that have got married. The index is devided in to years and quarters (groups of three monthes) and all the names are arranged alphabetically. The index tells you which book (the volume) and which page the original record is on in the General records offices files. |

Rodney, these are all the Samuel Mills' marriages from 1850 to 1875 with possable brides called Jane but none are Pope. Mar 1852 Miles, Samuel - Biggleswade 3b 455 Jun 1860 Mills, Samuel - Ware 3a 203 Mar 1866 MILLS, Samuel G - S Stoneham 2c 81 Dec 1866 MILLS, Samuel - W. Bromwich 6b 1067 Mar 1868 Mills, Samuel - Rochdale 8e 57 Jun 1868 Mills, Samuel - Ashton 8d 759 Mar 1869 Miles, Samuel - Liverpool 8b 245 Jun 1871 Miles, Samuel - Tavistock 5b 657 Jun 1872 MILLS, Samuel Robert - Weymouth 5a 602 Sep 1872 Mills, Samuel - Northampton 3b 151 Jun 1873 Mills, Samuel - Bury 8c 683 Mar 1874 Miles, Samuel - Woodbridge 4a 861 The index reference is the registration district, Volume (e.g. 4c) and the page number (e.g. 0000). The month and year give you which part of that year the marriage was registered. So March represents Jan, Feb and March, and so on. |
