Is there a way other than paying to use 1837 to find following information out. Death of female surname only Ruff prior to 1943 in South London possible age 50 and her marriage to a Stephen George Ruff born 1892 marriage about 1910 to 1920 South London. I went to records Office and trawled through the big books there and had no luck. Any suggestions please |

Did Stephen and his wife have children? If so and you know the date of child's birth you could send for a birth certificate, which will have the wife's maiden name on. That might make it easier to look for a marriage. Do you have a main library or record office near you that has the GRO on microfiche? They are easy, but somewhat tedious to check quarter by quarter. |

Thanks Gwyneth My nearest local library does not have information and the library at Sutton is difficault for me to get to at the moment. There were children born in this marriage and they were given his surname but were not his children so I am stuck . He lived with his new partner and had 8 children befor being able to marry after the death of 1st wife in 1943. Thanks for your help. |
