I am not aware of any new Law, but you could come unstuck here... These are the details required whan ordering a birth cert for 2000 ''Particulars of the person whose certificate is required'' Year birth was registered - 2000 Surname at birth * Forename(s) * Date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy)* Place of birth * Father's surname * Father's forename(s) * Mother's maiden surname * Mother's surname at time of the birth Mother's forename(s) * Reference information from GRO Index Year 2000 District name and Number* Reg (Register Number) Entry Number* DOR (Date of Registration, mm/yyyy)* Required fields will be followed by the * character. I'm not sure how you get round that as it says the mother's forename/s are required. Sam |

The only way to see what's on any cert in England & Wales is to buy it. I appreciate the delicate situation as you you say, but you will not upset anyone by doing that, no one gets 'told' that you have ordered a cert of their mother/father/child etc.... Alternatively, since you know the area of the event, and maybe a not too common surname? Could you look on b4usearch for the parents, if you know the fathers name, and if they are together. Of course I'm talking with no idea of the reason for your query, just trying to save you a few bob :) If you want to say more in a private message, feel free. Sam |

Hi Heather and Lady, thanks for your replies, do you think i could go to the BMD office in London to have a look without ordering a Birth Cert as i have to be so careful about causing a family upset. Tina |
