Trying to find birth of a relative Thomas Edward Millard born about 1864/5ish. Have marriage cert 14 Oct 1888, gives age as 24. 1891 census age 26, 1901 age 36 but gives surname as Ingrey (which was his wifes maiden name) and he was born in Southampton Hants! But was he?? He married Ada Ingrey in Baldock Herts then went on to live in Islington. Thanks to anyone who can help. Anita |

Have you found him on the 1881 and 1871 census? What was his father's name and job on the marriage cert? Why are you questioning Southampton as his birth place? This is the only Southampton one I can find in 1871: Elizabeth Millard 1837 Southampton, Hampshire, England Wife St Mary Hampshire Elizabeth Millard 1865 Southampton, Hampshire, England Daughter St Mary Hampshire George Millard 1871 Southampton, Hampshire, England Son St Mary Hampshire Susan Millard 1860 Southampton, Hampshire, England Daughter St Mary Hampshire Thomas Millard 1833 Salisbury, Wiltshire, England Head St Mary Hampshire Thomas Millard 1861 Southampton, Hampshire, England Son St Mary Hampshire The only Thomas Edward for the right year comes from Spilsby in Lincolnshire. |

This seems to be the same Thomas as the 1871 one? He is shown as an ag lab George Millard abt 1813 Bramdean, Hampshire, England Head Cottage, West Tisted, Hampshire, England Lucy Millard abt 1814 West Tisted, Hampshire, England Wife Cottage, West Tisted, Hampshire, England Thomas Millard abt 1861 West Tisted, Hampshire, England Son Cottage, West Tisted, Hampshire, England William Millard abt 1848 West Tisted, Hampshire, England Son Cottage, West Tisted, SORRY, just went back again to look at that one, I was sort of expecting Thomas to be shown as grandson on the image, but he isnt???????? Perhaps you need to check out his dads name before we look at all the other possible Thomas? |

Thanks Brenda for the info, will follow this up. Thanks Helen this could also be a possibility, will follow that one up too. Totally Confussed- His fathers name was Thomas also, his father Thomas was a labourer. We believe both Thomas and Ada were illerate (as many were in those days)! And Ada did give everyones surnames As Ingrey in the 1901 census so maybe she gave the wrong information about Thomas being born in Southhampton? who knows!!! I'm confussed........... (We did find one of their children registered as Miller and not Millard) |
