Ages on 1841 census

All the relatives I've found on 1841 the ages are accurate to within a year. Enumerators were obviously as naff at doing sums as I am. nell |

Those for children up to the age of 15 had to be accurate, those for adults were rounded down to the nearest 5 years. |

Supposedly down to the nearest five for adults (over 15 years old). Hence 53 would be 50. 27 would be 25. However I have found areas where they give an exact age. |

I would be grateful if someone could advise about ages on 1841 census. Were they always rounded up or was it up/down to the nearest five. Thanks Gill |
