I am trying to search my grandfathers side of the family especially my great grandfather and great grandmother. I know that somewhere along the line my grandfathers family was Eastern European but where I am unsure. I cannot find a marriage for the two of them on BMD, so they may of possibly married abroad. I do know that my Great Grandfather died in Redhill or Reigate in Surrey in the 1970's. His name was William Martin also known as Leonard and his wifes name was Lillian May Carter. I have found a Lillian May Carter on Family Search and she seems to tie in with dates and area, but of course I annot guarentee this is her. how would I go about checking up on them further? and could i request a death certificate for William with this limited information? You really need to look at 1837online to get his GRO ref and then you can order the cert for £7. Otherwise it may just be possible that the local reg office may very kindly look it up for you - but wouldnt hold your breath.
