Hi All Located a church tucked in the depths of North Wales with very strong links to my ancestors to read the following.............. Christ Church was consecrated in October 1843. It was badly damaged by fire on 4 December 1892. 'Willing hands were soon at work carrying water from an adjacent stream; but this primitive method of extinguishing the flames was a slow and tedious one .... The vestry is totally destroyed, and all its valuable contents .... and, worst of all, the registers of marriages and deaths, and their duplicates' [From The Chester Chronicle, 10 December 1892] AARRGGHH!!! why me!! LOL Sarah xxx

Hi there, I had a similar thing - BUT check out the Bishops Transcripts - they would not have been in the church went it burnt down.

Sarah With a bit of luck the Bishops Transcripts for the parish may still be available. Ask at the County Records Office local to the area. Good Luck! Jeanette x

Oh dear! Were any of the records copied and sent to the nearest records office? I have a parish in Cornwall where the records were destroyed by water damage, but that was prior to about 1700 so t least I was able to get somewhere with that line before it fizzled out. Much empathy here.
