Thanks for your input. I have searched all of Scotlandspeople for the birth, both statutory records and parish records. Chloe, I will check LDS - previously had luck with another of my Scottish families on there. As a side note, Bridget's marriage certificate in 1861 has Agnes McBryde as mother, while Annie's has Ann McBride in 1873. Both Ann/Agnes and Bernard were deceased by the time of Annie's marriage. I have tried the 1871 census but couldn't find them to find out where they were born. I should try the 1881 census and see where Bridget was born on that one. Maybe the enumerator copied Ireland from her husband's line above in 1871.

I don't know if this helps, or confuses the situation. This has been added by a member of the LDS onto the site - McBayne might be a mistranscription for McBride?? And it's not Annie, but Bridget, who you say was born in Ireland, well this says she was born in Scotland. It's by no means 100% accurate, but might be something to take note off. Bridget McColl Female -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: About 1841 Kilmarnock, , Ayr, Scotland Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: Bernard McColl Family Mother: Agnes McBayne

Hi Margaret I may be wrong about this, but from memory I did not think that registration was introduced in Scotland until 1855. It was certainly later than in England (and even in England not everyone bothered by any means!). Have you searched the Old Parish Records as well? Trouble is that not all of these have survived in Scotland so it can be a bit hit and miss. Tina

Managed to find Annie McColl on the 1871 Scotland census, living with her sister Bridget and her husband John McGinness. On this and all subsequent census her birth place is given as Paisley, Renfrewshire. Calculating her age from these and her marriage certificate she was born c1853/54. Her sister Bridget was born in Ireland but was married in 1861 in Scotland. Her parents are Bernard McColl and Ann/Agnes McBride. I have searched Scotlandspeople, but to no avail. Even tried going from 1850 to 1860 in case she was registered late. Any suggestions what/where else I can check?
