The FreeREG Project's objective is to provide free Internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, which have been transcribed from parish and non-conformist church registers in the UK. THIS SITE ISN'T UP AND RUNNING AS OF YET, HOWEVER WHEN IT IS IT WILL BE FANTATSIC: http://freereg*rootsweb*com/index*htm ( Remove the * from url) |

I had an email from them some time ago and they said they were hoping to be active in the first quarter of 2005. Well that has gone now, so we will have to wait and see. Regards Jill |

It's been active for more than a year, must be about 3 years, if not more. Patience is what this hobby is all about!! |

I don't normally like to have a go at websites such as these that could be really useful when they are up and running. But I put my name forward a year ago to be the co-ordinator for the East Riding. I was given the ok eventually and have heard nothing since. Emails that I have sent recently have been ignored. I had two ladies contact me volunteering to do some transcribing too. I doubt they'll still be interested after all this time. It's such a shame as it has the potential to be a great site. Jeanette x |

I tried to contact them two years ago. My emails bounced back and I could not subscribe to the mailing list. There's no way I'd volunteer now; I just don't believe that site will ever get started. Why should I waste hours transcribing for FreeREG if it's never going to be put online? |

I first checked this site out when I started almost 5 years ago!! Still nothing. As you say it will be great when it happens. Wonder if any of the co-ordinators come on here to give us any updates. Diane |
