Did she die!

I have this family George and Margaret Brett (formerly Marshall) living with their three children Robert, Sarah Ann and Mary in 1861 census in North Shields, Tynemouth, Northumberland. 10 years later in the 1871 census George is married to Harriott Richardson living in Kent with their children and her children from her previous marriage. So I began looking for Margaret Brett's death but with no joy, so did she die? I also can't find the marriage for George and Harriott. Please let me know your views as I'm a bit stuck. Fern.

Annie Brett 1866 Canterbury, Kent Daughter George Brett 1827 Eastry, Kent Head George Brett 1870 Sandwich, Kent Son Harriet Brett 1829 Eastry, Kent Wife Mary J Brett 1856 South Shields Daughter (This is George's daughter from his marriage to Margaret) Rose Brett 1867 Whitstable, Kent Daughter Elizabeth Richardson 1862 Eastry, Kent Daughter William Richardson 1860 Eastry, Kent Son (These two are Harriet's children from her first marriage). So George's first wife Margaret must have died before 1866 when George and Harriet's first child was born. And why can't I find George and Harriet's marriage. Fern.

It looks like Shirley has found your marriage, but the death of Margaret should be showing her age as 40ish if she died in 1871 1861 for info George Brett 1827 Surrey, England Head Tynemouth Northumberland Margaret Brett 1830 North Shields, Northumberland, England Wife Tynemouth Northumberland Mary J Brett 1856 North Shields, Northumberland, England Daughter Tynemouth Northumberland Robert W Brett 1851 North Shields, Northumberland, England Son Tynemouth Northumberland Sarah A Brett 1853 North Shields, Northumberland, England Daughter Tynemouth Northumberland Sam

Have looked at the transcript page for Margaret's death on Freebmd and its def down as 31 , So it seems that isnt her death in 1870 Shirley

The three definate children George and Margaret had were all born in North Shields, Newcastle. I'm pretty sure that the child Annie born 1866 is George and Harriet's child. The way I see the picture is that Margaret died and so George moved with the children back to were he was born in Eastry, Kent and that is where he met and married Harriet Richardson. Many thanks to all those people who have offered my advice and look up things for me. Fern.

Is it possible that some births, marriages and deaths are missing from the index for the reference numbers when ordering the certificates. Which would explain why I can never find some BMD's. Or what is the possiblity of George and Margaret getting divorced. Fern.
