Does anyone know where the namr Thoephilus/Theophilius comes from? I have many family members of this name during 16/1700's and have never heard of it before. With Regards Natalie

Don't mean this to sound like a pun, but it does sound Greek to me.

Theo = God philis = love Mozart's middle name Amadeus is the same thing in Latin. I think it translates as Loved by God. nell

It sounds Greek, but the chap who did the finance for hubby's car had this surname, and he was Welsh! Lisa
