David, someone at Kew looked up my GF for WW1 and got me his merchant navy I.D. card (well a photocopy of it), looking rather like Hitler Im afraid. But its a very nice addition to my tree info.

David Try this site www.british-merchant-navy(.)co(.)uk you will find this a very useful site and Billy McGee is very helpful. Billy will almost certainly be able to find the answer to any query you have, just e-mail him. There is also a lot of very useful information and links on this site. I think it is one of the best for the Merchant Navy during the war. Good luck Kathleen

Hi David, there is a site for Merchant Navy - in the war they became the Mercantile Reserve. Try having a google search.

Please can anyone help me. I have obtained my fathers discharge card from WW2 and am trying to trace info on the ships he served on in the merchant navy. Does anyone know where I can possibly find this info. SHIPS NAMES: Thyra 2, Fort Alexandria, Chertsey 168401, and boat number 168857 He was on the Murmansk Run from the 15th Dec 1942(JW51A) to Jan 1943(RA52) on the ship Briarswood. Any more info on this ship and the others mentioned would be greatly appreciated
