How can I find out who lived at an address in 1896, I have subs to Ancestry and 1837 but don't know where to look.

have u tried going to the website of the village/town that u are looking for?rather than trying a census

No but I will. Thought I had seen a tip about how to find it on a census somewhere on here recently. By the number of replies it would seem that it can't be done.

Gloria The census will tell y ou who lived at an address in 1891 and 1901. If you want to know who lived at an address in 1896 you can look in the electoral register and/or street directories of that year. These will be in local history centres/larger libraries or archives in the area. The electoral register will only list adult men eligible to vote and the street directory will usually only have the head of household - generally a man. nell
