Yes, yes, yes. My Great grandmother is missing on the 1901 census, she should have been 11months old but she's not there. I found her parents, brother and sisters but not her. I also have her marriage certificate from 1924 stating that she was 23 (in the quarter before her birthday). Keep trying to find them I'm sure they will show up somewhere. My hopes are on the 1911 census no matter what condition its in. |

My Great Grandfather is missing from 1871 and 1881. I have found his whole family, just not him. He is on 1861 aged 2 and then doesn't appear again until 1882 when he gets married. Goodness only knows where he went inbetween, he was only a child so couldn't have been at war or anything! Sam x |

Firstly, Margaret, yes it certainly is. Women can remarry between census making it practically impossible to find them and men, well, they're men! How often have you known of a man who filled out his own forms be they legal documents or not? I think in the 2001 census there are believed to be 250,000 men missing. (Thank goodness I won't be researching them in 100 years time!) Now Lunar, have you found the birth certificate? She might have stated her age wrongly at the time of marriage if she was under 21 and didn't have parental consent. My grandmother lied about her age from the day she married (If not before) I have no idea why but she was one of the first birth certificates that I looked for. You would have thought it would have put me off for life but once I found it three years before it should have been, I was hooked! |

Hi Margaret. I've got one fella just like that. He married in 1848 - and the family (inc wife & newly legitimised daughter) promptly disappeared. His widow re-appears in 1881. (she's not about for 1851, 61 or 71 either). I'm on to him though - I've managed to find another daughter in 1861 & today I received her BC, so now I know roughly where the family went. He was a bargeman by trade - I think he must have fallen in the river one night! Helen |

Hi Thankyou for your replies, The person I am after got married in 1871 after the census marriage certificate says he was 24 did find him on the 1881 census age 44 ? with wife and family. he had died by the 1891 census can't find a death certificate. So I beleive he was older even than the age 24 when he married. so there is no hope of a birth certificate for him will never know his mothers name or if he had any siblings. The 1881 census is the only one I have found him on. I will keep trying though. Hope some of you have some luck. What is worse I think is this is my fathers line. Margaret |

My grandmother was missing from the 1901 too (PRO version) but I eventually found that she had been mistranscribed to something I never would have guessed in a million years. I found her by trawling through everyone with that Christian name!!! I've since checked for her on Ancestry and they have it right so it might be worth looking in both places. Good luck everyone!
