I have in my tree someone called DALLEMY HEWITT. This is a man's name. This is the name I have found on 1841 census. On IGI he is down as DALLY HEWITT and on his daughter's marriage certificate it is DALEY HEWITT. Despite this odd name the man is nowhere to be found on 1861 census, neither is his wife Elizabeth nor their children, gone, vanished completely. DALEY has died by the time his daughter ANN marries in 1866 so no chance of finding him on 1871 then! Jenny |

Hi Jannette and Vicki Thank you for the info. I had seen this Dellamey and decided he must be related in some way to my Dellamy, perhaps the father John, was my Dellamy's brother? My Dellamy was born about 1819 possibly Darton, Barnsley. It must be a name that runs through the family. I wondered if there was a biblical connection as the family you found have religious names for their children. Unfortunately, I believe the 1851 census is too difficult to read for the area I am interested in and I think the family bust be mistranscribed on the 1861 as I can't find any of them, including Ann Hewitt who would be 15 and is married 5 years later in 1866.
