Thanks for everyone's help. Thought you would like to know that I today received the marriage certificate for Pryna Jane Jones aged 33 (spinster) and Robert Jones aged 37 (widower). They married at the Parish Church in the Parish of St John Baptist Cardiff on 27 April 1896. Witnessed by Gwenllian Skett (found her on 1881) and William Brickleton **pp. My grandmother was born a month later! Robert's father was Goodman Jones (deceased) and a caterer. Pryna's father was Philip Jones and a collier. I thought it would be easy to find Goodman Jones (unusual name) but can't find him on the 1881! Perhaps he was already dead? Can anyone find the family of Goodman Jones on an earlier census with a son Robert born circa 1859? Can anyone find the family of Philip Jones on an earlier census with a daughter Pryna born circa 1863? UPDATE: Lunar has found family of Philip for me, what a star!! Any help much appreciated. (See old thread for more details) |

Thanks Luna .... Yes, this looks like them. I've just double-checked my old thread and must have dismissed this information before. Thanks for the reminder, fits in now I have her father's name. Sorry I'm writing this in my lunch-hour so better get back to work now!! Just need to find Goodman Jones now. What would I do without Genes Reunited!! |

Just a thought, Did Robert give his address on the marrige certificate? If so someone might be able to look to see if he was living there in 1891 before the wedding and who he was with. |

Yes on the wedding certificate both Robert JONES and his future wife Pryna JONES were living at 24 Frederick Street in Cardiff. She must have been 8 months pregnant then and I expect they were living as Mr & Mrs (quite convenient that her maiden name was JONES before marriage). |

Thanks Kiltmon for checking 1871. I’m not 100% sure that Robert JONES was born in Wales as there are ties with West Derby in Lancashire by 1901. Maybe he was born and brought up around West Derby and moved to Cardiff later? On another track this was Robert’s second marriage as it shows him as a widower on the marriage certificate. On the 1881 he may be recorded as living with his first wife but have not got a clue how to find that out! |
