thanks for everyones help. i made a mistake, i have got his marriage and death cert of relative James Taylor but cannot find where he was born or date of birth to show that it is my relative. He was born I think 1900 / 1899, yet he does not seem to appear on the census or if he does i can't work out which one is him. From family info no one knows where he was born, but his parents died when 3ish and lived then with uncles, whether maternal or paternal no idea. then moved to gayle in yorkshire eventually and married my great gran, then died aged 36. Any idea how I can get hold of these things? Carol --------------------------------------------------------------------------------alrighty. the marriage was solemised by a hannah taylor who could be a relative, but not a sister as he was an only child. dad was edmund taylor who was a joiner. marriage was 29th oct 1924 and he was 24 then. |

I'd start from the marriage. Who does he say his father was and what was Dad's occupation? That might help to find the right one in the census, then you will have a birthplace to guide you to his birth certificate. Were any of the family witnesses at the wedding? That might help with finding the correct family. |

If you post the detaild from the marridge certificate we can have a look for them - a few new pairs of eyes might help. |
