Margaret There are quite a few useful Jewish sites - one of them has an index for birth, marriage and death announcements in the Jewish chronicle and other useful links: www*.jeffreymaynard.*com/ remove the * nell

Thanks Nell. I am doing a family tree for a friend of mine for Christmas and she is Jewish. She celebrates Christmas for her children (Santa and presents etc., not the birth of Christ). This site may come in handy once I get so far back. Margaret

Hi I was looking on http://www.jewishgen.org/ you have to register to use it, but it has lists of names being researched by people you can contact, and family trees you can search too. nell

The great thing about this hobby is that there is always something good. I got home today, disappointed that some certs hadn't yet come. I looked for a death on familyrelatives, used up lots of credits and then found I already had the reference on a note carefully filed with the family name. Feeling fed up, I decided to start with another branch of husband's family. His Jewish great grandmother married out of her faith and I had a query over her father. His name was Zuesman [variously mistranscribed as Luisman/Luzman/Guzman etc]. I have his marriage cert with his father's name Zalig. Trawled through the GRO books at the FRC last summer, found a birth for Zusman Hart, Whitechapel in the right year. Sent off for it - father's name Solomon. So today I went to the Jewishgen organisation, looked at various Harts and found - Zuseman Hart, father ZALIG SOLOMON HART! yIPPEE - there was an e-mail contact for the person researching the family, so I sent off an e-mail pronto. Her address is round the corner from where my husband and I used to live in London! nell
