I have the address that my ancestors were at in 1856 so as I couldn’t find them by name I thought I’d look at the enumeration district descriptions to locate them. I started working my way through Southampton St Mary district 5 and found some images duplicated and others missing. Then when I found a likely candidate elsewhere I got a copied image of the original census form, complete with the householders signature. Do a person search for Elizth Davis (spelt as written) birth year 1835, birth place Preston Lancashire, civil parish St Luke Middx and you should get the image.

Doesn't help me though, I'm grasping at straws (yet again) trying to find Elizabeth, James and Selina Shackleton, all no doubt, horrendously mistranscribed. Still, I've found Elizabeth's mother and I'm still looking for James' father. I'm sure some of mine only visited earth for the birth of their kids, 1871 census and occasionally they died here too.

Thanks Sarah. Selina Shackleton born Southampton 1856 James Shackleton born France 1836 Elizabeth Shackleton born Preston, Lancs 1837 (Dates and locations(apart from selina's) taken from 1871 census. They moved around a bit. Elizabeth's mother was born Anglesey, Wales and I've found her in Shoreditch in 1861 and Jame's father was born Scotland. In 1871 they are living in Greenwich. I cannot find them 1881 but in 1891 Selina and the grandmother are both in Shoreditch. I'm going out now but will pop in later. Thanks
