I have found the person I've been researching but what are the Batch & Source numbers useful for? Can't find the birth record but have found the christening record on this site, but don't know how or where to get the evidence, any help appreciated. Regards, Sandra

Click on the batch number. That will take you back to the search page with just the batch number filled in. Enter the surname and it will list all entries with the same surname in that batch.

There won't be any birth records, they are mainly baptism records with some marriages and very few deaths. All records for each church are sorted into 'batches' and given a number with a letter at the front. C are baptisms, M are marriages then there are P and E and also some others. If you find a record, try using the same batch number but changing the C to an M or similar and it should bring up marriages from that church. And as Brian says, try using the batch number and a surname, it should bring up all instances of that name. There is a list of what batch numbers relate to which church/parish, try googling 'Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers' and you should find the site, its very good. I think the source numbers just relate to the film number that the original records were filmed onto. You can use it to order the film from the LDS to view at your local Family History Centre. Sam x

Yes the 2 people that have answered you have given you good advice. By using the same batch number I have often found other siblings in the family that I knew nothing about. I did not know the trick about changing the letter on the batch numbers cannot wait to try. Good Luck with your research. Irene

When you get into the batch, if you put in the surname, then the christian names of the father and mother in the boxes on the right you can get a list of all the children of those parents. Of course there could be more than one set of parents with the same christian names but the dates of the children usually help you to work that one out. The tip about the Hugh Wallis IGI page is a good one. It is a fantastic site - you can look for the place that you are interested in and it tells you what dates and events the different batches cover then lets you link into and search the IGI batch directly from the list. Absolutely invaluable!!
