Can anyone tell me what Parish Hawkenbury in Kent came under in 1841 for the census that year? Thanks for reading this Regards Kim

It doesn't appear on the Genuki list of parishes - but I guess that it would have been either Tunbridge or Ticehurst, as those seem to be the two surrounding reg districts (most likely Tunbridge I would guess).

Hiya Kim Definately Tonbridge as Hawkenbury is a hamlet of Tunbridge Wells. I live in Tunbridge Wells so if you need any local knowledge give me a shout :-) Karen

Do you know how old Hawkenbury is? I can't find it under Tunbridge Wells, but there is an area called Windmill Fields that I can't identify. It is on that side of the town as the next district starts from windmill fields before going to Halls Hole Road and Blackhurst, to the edge of Pembury. If you give me some names I can do a look up in Windmill fields for you as I have got the 1841 census cds. Sheila

Hi Sheila Hawkenbury is on the other side of Tunbridge Wells, its between Tunbridge Wells and Frant. I was thinking this afternoon as I was walking home that I dont think Hawkenbury is as old as 1841, I have a cd rom which has the history of Tunbridge Wells on it plus some old maps, I will have a look on them. This is taken from the CD rom I have on the history of Tunbridge Wells :- HAWKENBURY 1853 (Clifford) - Hawkenbury is about two miles east from Tunbridge Wells, on the borders of Frant Forest. It consists of a number of small cottages, inhabited chiefly by the labouring poor, and contains a population of about 300. A chapel and a school-room has lately been erected by the voluntary contributions of the resident gentry of Frant and Tunbridge Wells, the ground for the purpose being given by the Marquis Camden. TOWN DEVELOPMENT FROM GUIDE BOOKS – Susan Brown I've also had a look on the old maps I have of Tunbridge Wells that are on the CD Rom and it only shows the centre of Tunbridge Wells. There wasnt a church built in Hawkenbury until 1889. Karen
