Does anyone know if there are any old prison records ( and dare I hope photos ) for Wakefied prison inmates circa 1881 and if so where I can find them online? I would be eternally grateful for any help

It might be worth looking here: http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ I believe there are some photos of prisoners from Victorian days. Christine

Hi Chezza I needed to find someone from Durham Jail. I phoned the prison and they gave me the phone number of the prison archives, somewhere down south. Unfortunately as it was some years ago, I don't have the phone number any more. Try phoning Wakefield Jail and they should be able to give you it. Good Luck Dianne

Good idea Alan. I live in Dorset so even further away. Now all we need is some kind person. I am looking for info on George Lenanton who was shown as being in Wakefield Prison on 1881 census.
