Getting a reply from another member of GR

Through the search facility found another member with a tantalising possible connection with my tree. My ancestor had an un-common Christian name (Elmira) The other member's tree has exactlty the right christian name and surname and the right birth year. I have sent three separate messages over a four week (March/April)period giving everything I know about this ancestor and asking for permission to view their tree; so far no response. I've no desire top hassle this person; I'm just keen to see whether we are connected. Anybody got any bright ideas about how to move forward - or do I just foget it?? Alan

There seem to be quite a lot of reasons why you get no response: The person may have changed their email address and forgotten to tell GenesR. The messages they get may be going into their spam folder. They may be ill or on holiday. They may have lost interest in researching their family. Finally ... they may be scared you'll 'come and get them'....if that's the case why the **** did they put the name on here in the first place. It is EXTEMELY FRUSTRATING but unfortunately there's not much you can do about it. I try and look on the bright side and think its their loss. Also it does prove the GenesR policy of complete privacy. Anne

Hi may be if you didn't ask to view the tree but only if they can confirm the connection. There have been people who wanted to view trees and then used the information so some may think twice about letting you see their tree. Myself I don't even put the information that people send me unless I have checked it out. Its to open for mistakes and then will be passed on to others. Irene

Alan, I too have had few mails that haven't been answered. But I'm hoping the ones I sent tonight will be answered. Too much of a co-incidence not to be related. The name on the list had the same birth and place info as my gggrandmother's brother. Once I had written her, I went back in and checked the parents names and they both had check marks next to them and they were right beside my entries of the same names. Only thing - her member number is way down there. So it could be a while before I hear from her. I had written to GR a while back about the possibility of an automatic message if GR's 'notification of new message' was bounced back as undeliverable. 'We are always pleased to receive suggestions for enhancing the site from our members. We are currently overwhelmed with some wonderful suggestions and whilst we do read through all of them, we are, unfortunately, unable to respond to each one in detail.' And also 'I am afraid we cannot force members to answer emails. When you send another member a message, it is delivered directly to their inbox on the site. We then also send an email to their registered email address advising them that they have received a message from you.' Just have to hope for the best. Margaret
