Anyone else use PAF?

If you do, does anyone else have the same problem as me, I have relatives in my tree where I don't yet have a full date of birth, so they are 'circa' dates. PAF will accept these, but when I export the file and upload it to update my tree, wherever they are 'circa' dates they do not appear at all, looking as if there is no info there. It then takes ages to try and find all the ones it has 'missed' and add the appropriate dates. Does anyone know how to enter a circa date in PAF so that it shows as a circa date on Genes? Eternally grateful, Trudy |

I use PAF but have never used it to transfer to the Genes tree as I keep less on this site than on my PC. But I think all prograns have niggles when moving them to different ones. |

My main tree is on Tribalpages but I do use PAF on desktop and have had no problem in moving between PAF and Tribal and back again, but moving data from either to GR resulted in chaos where my daughter became mother of her husband, and many similar problems. On PAF surely all you need put is a Year rather than making it 'circa' and then it may transfer properly; really case of thinking computer speak - some sites only give ability to enter dd/mm/yy and so 'circa' is impossible, on others you may be able to put c. rather than 'circa' so rather than play against the machine just enter the year - I dont think this site is meant to show all that can be entered on Tribal or PAF but is meant only to show names, location and year so that others may be able to see if they have corresponding families. |

Type Abt, not circa that seemed to work for some things I imported to, can't remember exactly which ones tho. Try it anyway. AL P.S U also have to have ur PAF tree in Ansi format to upload to GR and with extention .ged |

I import my tree from PAF to GR and use 'Abt' if I'm not sure of the year. This works fine. The thing about GR that really bugs me is that the site doesn't recognise baptism dates. Pre 1837 that's usually all you can find. So if you enter a date and place of baptism on PAF then import the file, the name appears on GR with no other information. People on GR then think you are lazy and haven't bothered to put any details on your records. GR keep on saying they will address this problem but they've been saying it for 2 years now. |
