Nell, They do that on later death certs (1980ish onwards). My gran died in 1984. When I found her death on microfiche at the records office, it had her date of birth as well, which was handy as I didn't know it! maggie

My grandfather's death was registered by his son (my uncle). His birth year is out by one year and his place of birth misspelt. I contacted the register office but its a long rigmarole to get it changed and would involve me having to go to Ashford. I presume that in the future the registrar will be able to check the information about a person's birth with their birth registration details online, but until then... nell

Diane, A death has to be registered where it happened, and that might not be where they were from. Janice

Hi Diane, There can be any reasons as to why a persons age may not be correct, it can depend on circumstances;;if he had no family?and this age was given on hospital records by him,,or by the informant, which may not have been a relative,,but gives an age to be known correct to them,, You may come across about ???because the informant is not 100/% sure,,,,of a correct age ,,and that can even be a son/daughter;; kay,

O dear, I had hoped that they asked for some sort of proof. I May have to look a bit further then, the one with the correct middle was from nowhere near the place we were expecting! Di

All the time! The age is given by the person registering the death who may or may not know how old the person actually is and may be guessing Lou

I have found a death (which I know to be correct) on 1837Online Dec Qtr 1966 of a person who passed away aged 64. Going back through all of 1902 I cannot find anyone with the correct middle name, however I have found one in Sept Qtr 1901. Where does the Registrar get a persons age from when they die and is it possible that someone could get it wrong? Di
