Hi John, Welcome to Genes Reu,, I belive Walthamstow will be in the registration Distric under 4a This where you put your request is called a THREAD,,, IF you havnt had a reply to your request, and others come along after you with theirs yours will get pushed down the list, you can then go back onto your request page and instead of putting a message you just type in NUDGE and it will take it back to the top of the list,,once somebody has added a reply to your request you can go back ,on your thread and delete it,,,on the opening page of the board where you put your reguest you will see '<'view your threads>'this is where you go to add to message or you can delete it;;hope this helps,, Kay,

Hi again John If you give us a name, date of birth (or just year of birth as near as you can) and birthplace, we will try to find some relatives for you. I promise once you find a few relatives, you wont be able to stop. You will pick things up very quickly and know which sites to visit before you can click your fingers. The internet is an amazing thing for finding things out. Happy hunting. Vikki xx

Hi John, I found this on GENUKI:- West Ham Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : Canning Town; Forest Gate; Leyton; North East Ham; North Leyton; Plaistow; South East Ham; South Leyton; Stratford; Walthamstow; Wanstead; West Ham. GRO volumes : XII (1837-51); 4a (1852-1930). Cann Hall, East Ham, Leyton, Little Ilford, Walthamstow, Wanstead, West Ham, Woodford. Registers now divided between Newham, Waltham Forest and Redbridge districts.

Walthamstow was in West Ham District - ESSEX, not London: West Ham Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : Canning Town; Forest Gate; Leyton; North East Ham; North Leyton; Plaistow; South East Ham; South Leyton; Stratford; Walthamstow; Wanstead; West Ham. GRO volumes : XII (1837-51); 4a (1852-1930). A thread is a question followed by any number of replies - like the thread which I am adding to now. When a thread has a new reply, it climbs to the top of the list again, gaining prominence. Adding a blank reply, or one just saying 'nudge' causes the thread to rise, without contributing to its content.

Hi Welcome to Genes. Any information you want - just ask on tips board. They are all lovely helpful people here. A thread is like the one you just posted - asking a question. A nudge is what you do to move an older thread to the top of the board. You just post a reply to the relevant thread and in the reply you just type 'nudge' (or something similar). When it has put the thread at the beginning of the board you click on it, find your reply and then click 'delete'. Walthamstow is in London. Im not sure if this is the district or just the City. Vikki xx

My relative was born in Walthamstow does any one know what district it is? Also what does it mean to delete a nudge and what is a thread.i am nearly 73 so this is all very confusing.
