I have found in 1851 some ancestors living in Colemere Shropshire. It is part of the parish of Ellesmere. They are not there in 71. Colemere is a tiny place and I would like to look in the censuses from 71 onwards to see who was in the village, by browsing through the pages. If I enter Colemere without a persons name, Ancestry will have none of it. Does any one know how I can find this village Linda

I would try just a common first name like Mary and leave the surname blank, then put the village and county in for the residence. It should bring up a few villagers, then you can work your way forwards and back from there. Hope that makes sense, Happy hunting, Sheila

I've done it that way, even perhaps entering say 'John' and the village name (to get me into the village) and then trawling. Jess snap! - saying that I've just tried that very criteria on 1861 and it didn't work. maybe the place name not recognised, tried Bristol insead of Colemere and that DID work

Thanks I will try that. My brain must have totally given up the ghost as I tried all the other surnames on the 1851 page I had, but never thought of only using a christian name. Linda

Brilliant, I am in now, so can browse to my hearts content. Wether I find anything useful is another matter of course! Linda
