There definitely could be that large of an error. Some of my relatives age's are off by 7-8 years. Rose |

Laird Thank you for your comments. I beleive that Charles was 21 when he was married so that wont be a problem. I have looked through the births and deaths register but without knowing where they were born Im not sure I can narrow it down any. |

Rose Thank you for your comment. I think that may be them the age is about right for Charles but Maria stated she was 33 in 1886. The age then on the census is out by abt 5 years. Do you think there could be that much of an error? |

Might this be then on the 1891? Barnes, Charles abt 1885 Islington, London Son Islington London Barnes, John abt 1879 Islington, London Son Islington London Barnes, Maria abt 1849 Norfolk Wife Islington London She is listed as wife but there is no husband in the household at the time. There is this birth record that coincides with the census record Name: Barnes, John Henry Record Type: Births Quarter: December Year: 1879 District: Islington County: Greater London London Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 321 This may be the John Henry listed as a witness on Charles' marriage certificate. Was Charles Edward B 'of age' for his marriage ? Dont assume anything - whomever John Henry B was - witness/father means nothing from this end of the telescope. Nobody checked anything - my GrtGrandMa was under 21 when she married, and named her brother as her father to 'conceal' it.... Where have you looked for births and marriages ? |

I am trying to find the parents of my great grandfather Charles Edward Barnes born 1886 in Islington workhouse Infirmary to Maria Barnes. Maria only admitted herself (as a spinster) for the birth, she was only in the workhouse for a couple of weeks. Charles's birth certificate does not state a father, however, on his marriage certificate he states his father as John Henry Barnes. John Henry is also a witness at his wedding so must have agreed that he was his father. I cannot find any traces of any of them through the census. I have no further information about where Maria and John Henry were born. I know Maria was 33 when she entered the workhouse. I dont know where else to look to find out who John Henry was, if he was the father. How is that the surnames are all Barnes if they were not married. Charles Edward lost contact with the family so we do not know when or where he died. Any help, guidance of where to go next or what to look for would be very welcome. Any clues as to the answer to this riddle more than welcome. |
