Tracy That would have been so useful to me. My great grandfather married a widow FIELD, her father's name BUTLER. I spent ages looking for a BUTLER/FIELD marriage but it turned out that she, BUTLER first married HUMPHREY then as HUMPREY married FIELD. She outlived my great grandfather too. I wonder what she did to all of them?

On some of mine, they have their married name. Plus the birth certs from the second marriage may have both names. Regards, Alan.

Mine have stated their maiden name followed by formerly blah blah for their 1st married name. BUT that doesn't mean to say they all did that - some may have lied for whatever reason. Debby

All the ones I've found married in their 1st married name when marrying again.

When a female remarried in the mid 1800's what surname would she use - revert to maiden name or use her previous married name? Pauline
