I am looking for a marriage after 1926, but heard that ancestry will not have it because it is after 1911, but i thought their records went furthur than that? does anyone know why they only seem to go up to 1911? thanks

Ann, Ancestry uses the data from FreeBMD for 1837-1911. You can see the coverage here: http://freebmd.rootsweb.*com/progress.shtml Remove the * If you want to find BMDs between 1911 and 1984 you will need to use 1837online. Crista

The both have records after 1911. I just did a search for a period centred on 1920 for the name 'SMITH' and I am getting matches through the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1940s. Obviously not complete but worth checking. Ancestry use the same database as FreeBMD but I believe they can lag behind a bit i.e. might not have the latest update. But it has teh advantage of working quite fast. Don't forget to look at UKBMD, some areas of the country have quite recent BMDs transcribed. MB

Hi Crista Thanks that explains it, i do not know the exact year of marriage and there are quite a few things more after 1911 that I need to look up as well, so it would probably take ages and cost a fortune on 1837 online, i think it is a trip to the FRC in Angel for me! Ann

Hi Martin I had a look but the records that I need are not there, so I am going to take a trip to the FRC and solve a few mysteries :) Ann

Ann If you could let me know the names and county I will have a look for you. I have BMD sites for quite a few counties, hopefully I might have the appropriate county for you. John
