anyone got any ideas? im really stuck on my gt grandfather, ADOLPHUS POOLE (1880/1) i can find him on 91 and 01 census but i just cannot find his birth. its not that simple tho! his parents WILLIAM and CAROLINE POOLE did not marry till 1884 and it has always been rumoured that he was a result of an affair on his fathers part. so im thinking he had a different surname at birth.his father was in the army around the time of his birth;but if caroline is not his mother wat happened to the real one?on the census' he is stated as being born in MAIDSTONE KENT. any ideas??

Beth Anne, Have you tried looking for an Adolphus born with whatever Caroline's maiden name was? There's a Caroline WOOD marrying a William POOLE in Dec Quarter of 1884 - and an Adolphus Anthony B WOOD born in 1880 in Maidstone - both on FreeBMD. regs Jane

hi jane, yes thats the right marriage~ and id searched ancestry till i was blue in the face for an adolphus wood with no luck . i cant believe youve just found that!!!

thing is ~in 1881 census caroline is living with parents and siblings (age 19) there is a mysterious baby boy grandchild called frank wood there but ihave been unable to find any further info on him to decide whose son he is! coincedently, he is also born in 1880 and i even wondered if he is the same child?
