As Susan was born in Marwood, I would guess the registration district would be Barnstaple. There are 10 Susans on Ancestry born 1843 and registered there. Hi, Joseph.. My Nicholas was only married once. and their first child William was born in 1868(Marwood). 6 children in all, the youngest being my grandmother, Clara Born 1880. Thanks for your help. I too have just been trying the free BMD (for my John Rudd's birth as well) But like you I've found nothing on there. I've got Susan's place and date of birth Marwood. 1843. But no idea of her surname.. I'll have to see if I can find out the date of their marriage. Thanks again Zillah X

Is Susan his first wife ? or were there two Nicholas Tuckers in the area ? There is a marriage listed in 1877 for Barnstaple Registration district but shows two grooms and only one bride and the bride shown is not Susan. Looks like you will have to order the birth cert of the most recent child - unless you are aware of another younger Nicholas. It is also a pity that the years that you want to search for the marriage are the least transcribed of those on FreeBMD.

It was most likely between 1858 and 1868 as their son William was born then. There is nothing on FreeBMD, so it is probably 1858-1865, as these records aren't fully transcribed.

Hi Zillah, You will need to find their marriage and get the certificate - this will tell you her maiden name. Try the free BMD site and see if the marriage is listed on there. Hope this helps, Jackie

Either one of her childrens birth certificates or her marriage certificate will have it.

I have a Great grandfather Nicholas Tucker. Born Braunton 1840. In the 1881 census he is married to SUSAN ? and living in Marwood. Can anyone tell me how I can find out Susan's maiden name, as I have a family Bible started by her.. Thanks very much Zillah
