As you probably know, cricketer George Herbert Hirst was born 7 Sept 1871 and lived in Kirkheaton which is just to the east of Huddersfield. The 1881 census is not too helpful for finding him.

I do have another lead which might be worth me looking into. Her first cousin was George Hirst a famous Yorkshire Cricketer. His father and Amelia's father would have been brothers. I have thought about getting George Hirst Jnr 's marriage certificate which would state his father's name and that might lead me to Amelia's father. Fern.

This entry from the 1881 census may be worth looking into: I know it says Amelia was born in Notts, but I've just looked on the map and Harworth is very very close to the border with Yorkshire and only a very few mile from Doncaster. I couldn't see Linpool itself on the map. I'd like to help more but it's getting late and I must be off to bed! Wow, they look like a good match for the family above on the 1891, don't they? Kate. Hi, I'm a bit confused. My great grandmother Amelia Hirst was born in Yorkshire in 1879. I have her marriage certificate which states her father as George Hirst a farmer. I have only managed to find her in the 1901 census under her first married name Mildenhall. She is listed as being born in Doncaster, Yorkshire. I cannot go back any further as there are 1. too many names the same for that part of the country and 2. nothing seems to fit. Trying to find a George Hirst without knowing where he was born is impossible as there are too many to choose from. I can seem to find anything that could be Amelia Hirst in the census or births. Could someone help me out please. I don't know where to go from here.
