I wonder if this could be Mary: Name: Martin, Mary Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1901 District: Hull County: East Riding of Yorkshire Humberside Volume: 9d Page: 344

Is this mary's birth Martin, Mary Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1901 District: Hull County: East Riding of Yorkshire Humberside Volume: 9d Page: 344 Unfortunately that means she would not be on the 1901 census as it was taken on 31st March. If you use this reference to buy the certificate from the GRO www*gro*gov*uk replace the * with dot then you will have her parents. Then you will be able to trace the family back through the censuses. Linda

Hi Deborah I think you'll need to search the 1837 site for these. Heather

thanks, is it just a case of trawling through all the bmd sites to find out when they married (have been told they married in burnley) are they just records of where they married, or would it show if they eloped (thinking gretna). how do people's information just dissapear or am i looking in the wrong area

Deborah Don't make the mistake of assuming that all internet resources are complete. If you are looking for events (BMDs) after July 1837 you need the Certificates which you can apply for from the PROs. Ancestry, the IGI, Free BMD etc are just to make it a little easier to locate the information, but are not yet complete, and, of course, are prone to possible errors in Transcription. Happy hunting, Jim

Thank you all, yes it is a bit much. My mothers fault giving me lots of information.. I actually have 4 lines with lots of information on all. I am starting with this one. one bit of goods that has spurred me on is finding my cousin and re-uniting her with an enormous family including her mother she has never seen. So yes i got too excited and will now calm down and use all your tips. Thanks too you all. Just think last week i spent an hour trying to work out what bmd could possibly stand for, thinking you were all talking a foreign language.. Thanks again from an eager newbie
