I know I have tried this before but.... For over 3 years I have been looking for my gt gt grand father. James Charles Theobalds Buddell, born 1858 Marylebone. Parents James Buddell (Gentlemens Coachman) and Sarah (nee Theobalds) Have James Charles on the 1861 age 2 (great) but down as Charles James and a visitor with a family called Dovey. Parents are no where 1871 James Charles is no where to be found, and again his parents are no where. 1881 James Charles is now married to Jane Hall, marriage cert says father 'dead' nothing else. If you guy's can help on this I would.........??????? lol Thanks Kim x |

I'm not sure this is the sort of answer you want to hear, but if Dad is a coachman, he is used to travelling. If he is a Gentleman's coachman, then he will be going whereever the gentleman, or his family, are going. If the family had a town house and a country house, the father could well be in the country. As a matter of interest, do you have a marriage certificate for the parents? Does that provide any extra clues? If not, is it possible that the parents were not married and the mother had to give up the child? It is a difficult period to look for deaths in London, but it may well be that the mother died young as well. It is worth looking at freebmd to see if anything turns up. |

Thank you for your replies everyone. I have JCT's birth cert and he was born 1858. I have never been able to find a marriage for James & Sarah, his parents, or a death for Sarah. On the 1871 the Dovey's have 2 other 'Nursing children'. But JCT is nowhere to be found on that census, or his parents. The James Charles Buddell who died in Gravesend is not mine, he was married to a Catherine and had always lived there, he was a 'Herb gatherer'. Kim |
