Thanks ZOe - I have sent you a message so that I can get an email addy to send the PDF over. In the meantime I have found that the National Archives has a list of independent researchers who might be able to do it. You have to email them. Thanks for all the tips!

I've an idea that this method of filling the whole space was done on purpose to make sure no-one added anything to the will at a later date. I spent ages trying to puzzle out a word which seemed to crop up often on a will I obtained, before realising it was a special squiggle used to fill the space at the end of the line :-)

the problem is the writing - it's very difficult to read and they seemed to write over words from the line above and squash words into the edges of the page - we would have been smacked with a ruler in my day!

Is it the actual writing that's a problem or more the meaning of the words? I believe there are some sites that can help with either but I don't know which they are. Can you get any help if you use Google ?

I've been trying to read a will from 1848and wondering if anyone knows of a service that you could send the document off to that would transcribe it for me?
