Just been told by a cousin that one of our relatives in the early 1800s age 37 was put in prison for 1yr having behaved in a lewd and disorderly conduct and having 3 children dependent on the parish. The Plight of the single mother...? I wonder who looked after the kids for that year? Kim

They may have been put in the pporhouse during that time, or perhaps enough money provided for a relative to look after them. You may be able to find records of this if you find out where the local poorhouse was. Sometmes the minute books and admissions registers still survive. Alice
